Correction to: Nature Communications https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-025-59322-z, published online 27 May 2025
In the version of the article initially published, in the penultimate paragraph of the Results section, the text “H3N6 was detected across several clades, with samples from Myanmar classified within Clades 3C.3a, 3C, and 3C.3a1. Samples from Lunn Island in Papua New Guinea, Clades 3C and 3C.3a1 were detected. Samples from Indonesia, exhibited clustering in Clade 3 C.3a1, while samples from the Philippines and Madagascar were clustered in Clades 3C and 3C.3a1” should have read “H3N6 from Myanmar, Lunn Island (Papua New Guinea), Indonesia, the Philippines, and Madagascar could not be assigned to any recognized H3 clade and were therefore classified as unassigned.” In the last paragraph of the Results, the text “H3N6 showed two cleavage site variants: 52.17% of sequences had PEKQTR/GIF, while 47.83% carried PEKQTR/GLF, corresponding to clades 3C/3C.3a and 3C.3a1, respectively” should have read “H3N6 showed two cleavage site variants: 52.17% of sequences had PEKQTR/GIF, while 47.83% carried PEKQTR/GLF, corresponding to unassigned clades, respectively.” Additionally, the following text was missing from the first paragraph of the Methods: “Some sampling locations in the Mozambique Channel comprise numerous small, unnamed, or inconsistently named sand islets. Local place names and geographic descriptors may vary between communities and are not always represented consistently on official maps. Therefore, for clarity and consistency, sampling locations were reported using the locally recognized geographic names and regional descriptors provided by community collaborators. For example, “Nosy Ve-Androka” and the “Bazaruto Archipelago” refer to local geographic designations used for groups of islets within the Mozambique Channel rather than individual officially mapped islets.” Supplementary Table 1 has also been updated accordingly. Changes have also been made to the Acknowledgements, Data availability and Ethics statements; the original versions are available for comparison as Supplementary information accompanying this amendment. These corrections have been made to the HTML and PDF versions of the article.
