Author Correction: Ecological drivers of intercropping performance for enhanced global crop production

In the version of the article initially published, Figure 5 and the related text in the Results and Discussion section contained errors.

In Figure 5, the production change values (Mt) should read:

Barley: 9.3 (instead of 101.6)

Pea: 5.0 (instead of 55.5)

Maize (bean): 156.1 (instead of 1,827.6)

Bean: 14.7 (instead of 157.6)

Maize (cowpea): 78.7 (instead of 851.1)

Cowpea: 3.0 (instead of 32.8)

Maize (soybean): 701.9 (instead of 7,729.6)

Soybean: 168.1 (instead of 1,847.5)

Wheat: 0.5 (instead of 5.7)

Faba bean: 3.6 (instead of 38.8)

In the Results and Discussion section, the text “…ranged from +5.7 Mt for wheat in the wheat-faba bean intercropping to +7,730 Mt for maize in the maize-soybean intercropping” has been changed to “+0.5 Mt for wheat […] to +701.9 Mt for maize”. The sentence regarding production increases has been updated to: “The positive effects of intercropping resulted in increasing maize, barley, and wheat production by 62.4% (maize-soybean), 6.3% (barley-pea), and 0.1% (wheat-faba bean) respectively.” Finally, the text “ranging from 0.102 billion hectares for the Wheat-Faba bean association to 2.75 billion hectares for the Maize-Soybean association” has been changed to “9.4 million hectares […] to 250 million hectares“.

In the Abstract section, the text “– maize (+51%), barley (+6%), and wheat (+1%)” has been changed to “– maize (+62.4%), barley (+6.3%), and wheat (+0.1%)”.

The errors are limited to scaling and do not affect the relative trends, the statistical significance of the results, or the overall conclusions of the study. The corrections have been made to the HTML and PDF versions of the article.
