Heated beetles

The long-term resilience of species to increasing temperature relies on both individual survival and successful reproduction. High temperatures have been shown to readily impair the production and function of gametes (particularly sperm), and species occurrence has been shown to map closely to sterilizing (rather than lethal) temperatures. However, the impacts of temperature on sexual selection — the competition for mating partners or their gametes — remains relatively unexplored.
